We recently took a trip to the Varner-Hogg Plantation which is in West Columbia, Tx. This is about an hour away, South West from Downtown Houston. To be honest, we didn’t know what to expect because the 6 years that we have lived in Houston, we have never heard of the place. I highly recommend this trip for a family trip, or for an educational experience. This plantation is filled with history that is truly fascinating!
Our Trip To Varner-Hogg Plantation
You will be greeted with nice staff in the visitor center where the gift shop is located. That’s where you will start the tour. They do have self-guided and guided tours. The entrance fee is minimal. Plan to spend up to 2 hours there. The plantation is surrounded by beautiful Pecan trees on a 65.66 acre lot, which features a refurbished Greek Revival plantation house built in 1835.
If you are a history buff or you just love to learn new things then this if for you and your family.
Tips To Consider
- You can bring your own picnic. They have a designated picnic area.
- You must ride their bikes! They are a lot of fun. They rent them out for 5 dollars an hour
- Bring your camera. There are beautiful trees and cottages that you will want to capture on camera.
- Recommended time to go is in the morning. It can get pretty hot during the afternoon especially in the summer. You will have to walk some.
- Bring mosquito repellent and a first aid kit. You will have to walk off the path into the grass to see some exhibits.
You can now rent cottages! Check out their website for more information. If you know someone who is engaged or they want to renew their vows, they do have weddings and anniversaries on the property.
We had an awesome time learning about the history of this plantation. It was both educational and fun! I highly recommend this place.

We love to travel and go out of town, but this past Spring Break we had a staycation here in Houston. We are so glad we did too! We have lived here for a while and it’s crazy how big Houston is. You can live here for years and not experience everything that Houston has to offer. There are so many great places, but we think that we found the best area to stay in Houston. The Clear Lake/League City/Webster area has so much to offer and we had no idea.
Ever since I was a teenager I wanted to go to New York City. It was my dream to go there after high school to model, act, and experience life. Well, 15 years later my family and I finally went to New York. It was only for 3 days but we got to go during the holidays. In fact we got to spend Christmas Day in New York City. Was it magical and everything I hoped for? Yes, but there were also many things that I was unprepared for. I read many other blogs before going and nothing that I read prepared me for what we experienced.

There is one good thing about living 7 hours away from family and that’s making a road trip out of it. Have you ever felt like getting up and just driving wherever the wind blows you? We have an end destination, but between our home and our final stop the possibilities are endless. Road trips are a lot of fun. I love going to new places and experiencing new things. The last thing you want while away is an unfortunate surprise, so being prepared and planning ahead are a must.
Several weeks ago I was able to visit Magnolia Market in Waco, Tx. I was excited to finally see what everyone has been talking about. If you don’t know what Magnolia Market is, it’s a store that Chip and Joanna Gaines opened up. They are a married couple who stars in HGTV’s show Fixer Upper. Check out the pictures below.
Every summer we travel and this summer we decided we were going to explore Houston. We have visited several parts of Houston and one of my favorite places to getaway to is Shenandoah. It’s 30 miles north of Houston, near the Woodlands. Shenandoah has lots of food, shopping, and entertainment to offer.
We recently went to Vegas. We had a great time and we learned a lot of what to do and what not to do. I did do a little research before we went and got some great tips, but it still didn’t prepare me for the common mistakes that people make when you never have been to Vegas before. So here are some do’s and don’ts.
I looked up the meaning of Revenant because I was not sure what it meant. I thought that the title should have been resilient or resistant, because the main character is definitely both of those things. When I found out what Revenant means it is more fitting. It means to come back after everybody thinks you are dead.
